According to foreign media reports, a few days ago, Crystal IS of the United States (a company that produces UVC LEDs under Asahi Kasei, Japan) announced that its Klaran product line of water disinfection products has added a 60mW UVC LED.

The company stated that in an advanced prototype reactor, 60mW LED demonstrated effective and economical water treatment with a flow rate of up to 3 liters per minute and a disinfection rate comparable to NSF / ANSI 55 Class'A'. The existing water disinfection LEDs and water treatment reactors in the Klaran series are used for point of water treatment (PoU), with a flow rate of up to 2 liters per minute, and the disinfection rate is equivalent to NSF / ANSI Class'B'.

The new reactor is expected to be put on the market in early 2020. Users can replace the LED "engine" to meet different market performance requirements and business income models of the commercial water industry. Klaran vice president Eoin Connolly said, "Our new 60mW LED proves that UVC LEDs can cost-effectively meet the performance needs of commercial and consumer point-of-use markets."

The company stated that its product portfolio enables manufacturers and distributors of point-of-use products to reduce the total cost of ownership by solving maintenance issues related to traditional UVC technology (such as annual replacement and unplanned maintenance). He also said, “Unplanned UV lamp failures will soon cost service providers hundreds of dollars, which will seriously affect profit margins.” “Our rigorous testing provides a strong foundation for the reliability and performance of Klaran products.
