PDC launches UVCLED medical device imaging hole disinfection system

PDC’s unique UVC LED technology can kill 99.9% of all pathogens (including coronavirus), and is specifically designed to disinfect MRI and all difficult-to-clean imaging holes and imaging tables.

Nowadays, many people are well aware of the shortcomings of conventional chemical disinfectants. Jim Maslowski, co-founder and president of PDC, believes that the goal of PDC's UVC LED technology is to minimize the complexity, uncertainty and irritating chemicals of traditional disinfection methods to help technicians more easily provide patients with the safest Imaging experience.

Maslowski said: “By pairing the required manual cleaning with our UVC LED system, technicians can minimize irritating chemicals, waiting time, uncertainty, and difficult-to-clean areas associated with conventional disinfectants.”

  how much time is required?

According to Maslowski, in just 3-5 minutes, imaging technicians can be confident that their imaging apertures and workbenches have been fully disinfected and ready for the next patient. "In addition, although our UV-C system disinfects the imaging aperture and workbench, it frees up time for technicians to disinfect other items and prepare for the next patient," Maslowski said.

  Ensure thorough disinfection

But how can a technician be sure that the equipment is completely disinfected? "Our UV-C system provides 40 mJ/cm 2 dose of UVC LED at 275nm-it has been proven that it can kill 99.9% of all pathogens, including coronavirus. Included in the system to verify that the correct dose has been used.” said Michael Hemmerly, Chief Sales Officer of PDC.

These points can be placed on the workbench and in the imaging hole before starting the disinfection cycle. At the end of the cycle, the dot will indicate whether the appropriate dose has been given," Hemmerly said.

   Is UVC LED safe?

According to PDC test, as long as some precautions are followed, UVC LED technology is safe. According to Hemmerly: “When operating the UVC LED system, as long as the user keeps a distance of about 3 feet from the imaging hole, it is safe. If the user is close, we recommend using personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, Long sleeves and gloves to protect eyes and skin." "In addition, UVC does not penetrate glass, so it is safe to enter the control room while the system is running. To ensure that the system will not be accidentally opened, the securely stored locks and keys will have power Control." Hemmerly said.

Like most PDC solutions, the creation of UVC LED solutions is a collaborative effort, Maslowski said. "Although our current products can sterilize any imaging hole and workbench, the original idea was to sterilize only one system type of equipment-for example, the design for MRI and the design for CT. From many of our customers and partners Feedback from health care professionals helped guide the most favorable direction for product development,” Maslowski said.

The other two features of the PDC solution are internal product development and MRI specificity. Maslowski said: "Our UVC technology is not only built-in and MRI-safe, but also includes an easy-to-use MRI-safe cart, which makes transportation between imaging methods easy and easy to store."

PDC's UVC LED drilling disinfection system is the first and currently the only system that can use UVC LED technology to disinfect MRI and any imaging holes and workbenches.

PDC is now accepting pre-orders, and the first delivery will arrive in late December 2020.
