The Mini/Micro LED layout has achieved initial results, and the demand is coming soon

From the project statistics, the investment scale of Mini/Micro LED projects will continue to grow in 2021, and many projects established in 2020 will also usher in construction and production in 2021, or ahead of the upcoming Mini/Micro LED demand in 2022. be prepared.

Entering 2022, three projects with a level of more than 1 billion have been established, and various regions have successively released development plans related to the new display industry, which may indicate that more companies will invest more in Mini/Micro LED projects this year.

As the new favorite of the LED industry, Mini/Micro LED has flourished thanks to the continuous deployment of various LED companies in the past three years, accelerating the expansion from the commercial market to the consumer market, and more and more Mini/Micro LED technology products appear. In front of us, the demand for Mini/Micro LED is escalating year by year.

At the CES 2022 exhibition, we saw the preliminary results of the development of Mini/Micro LED technology. Mini/Micro LED has begun to be widely used in electronic consumer products such as TVs, laptops, tablets, VR/AR wearable devices.

In particular, MiniLED has been favored by major manufacturers such as Apple, Samsung, TCL, and Sony in recent years, and is used as a display backlight source for electronic products. Therefore, MiniLED can accelerate its penetration into display products such as TVs, notebooks, and tablets in 2021. Among them, this is enough to see the expectations of terminal brands for new display technologies. However, the price of most products equipped with MiniLED technology is still high at present, and MiniLED can only be seen in high-end products.

On the other hand, although Micro LED is still in the stage of product development and adjustment due to technical bottlenecks such as mass transfer, with the rise of the Metaverse concept in 2021, Micro LED can be used for VR/AR wearable devices known as Metaverse entry-level terminals. The device has attracted much attention for bringing a more immersive metaverse experience.

Especially in AR glasses, manufacturers such as Vuzix, WaveOptics, Xiaomi, TCL Thunderbird and OPPO have introduced Micro LED micro-display technology and optical waveguide technology into their AR products.

Among them, Vuzix Micro LED AR smart glasses have been launched, and OPPO Air Glass will be officially launched in limited quantities in March; while WaveOptics, Xiaomi and TCL Thunderbird smart glasses and AR glasses are currently prototype products.

In addition to wearable devices, in the context of the Metaverse, large-screen application scenarios such as outdoor naked-eye 3D display and XR virtual shooting have also become an important direction for the implementation of Micro LED technology.

In terms of outdoor naked-eye 3D display, display companies such as Leyard, Unilumin Technology, Ledman Optoelectronics, Absen, Alto Electronics, and Lianjian Optoelectronics currently have naked-eye 3D projects all over the world, bringing shocking stereoscopic display. At the same time, it can also provide new publicity methods for brands and cities.

In terms of XR virtual shooting, Unilumin Technology subsidiaries such as Radio, Leyard, Absen, Alto Electronics and other companies have launched virtual studio solutions to provide immersive virtual scenes for film and television production, improve film and television production efficiency and save a lot of money cost.
