Dow Corning Announces European Patent Office said patent number EP-1556443 will remain in force. This patent is Dow Corning intellectual property line in the hands of high refractive index (RI) phenyl silicone optical packaging technology.

This encapsulant provides better light output performance, increased reliability and the benefits of other high-brightness LED lighting.

In the rapidly changing European market, the decision of the European Patent Office has a decisive influence on the position of Dow Corning's intellectual property. Patent integrity is strategically important, and Dow Corning also has LED production sites around the world, such as the United States, Japan, South Korea, and China.

Patent No. EP-1556443, issued by the European Patent Office on March 27, 2013, is a significant intellectual property right owned by Dow Corning. Shortly after its release, the European Patent Office received objections from two units requesting cancellation of the patent.

However, after a review by the EPO and a few slight corrections, the European Patent Office formally proposed that this patent from Dow Corning will remain in force on June 21, 2016.
