Anyone unfamiliar with Argentine football may be surprised, but the general feeling in the country before the western tonight is that Boca would be a more accessible opponent to Santos than Racing.
So much so that the F90, the main football debate program on Argentine TV, aired by ESPN at lunch, considers Racing’s moment to be far superior, with a 70% favoritism to qualify. “A goal from Racing ends the series”, points out commentator Dani Arcucci, one of the first to play Racing’s classification against Boca when the cross was known. In fact, Racing’s goal would force Boca to score three.
Another consideration aired by Rádio Miter, the most heard in Buenos Aires, is the paralysis that affects Boca. “It was due to have been eliminated by Inter, and against Racing we saw more of the same, a mere continuation of what we perceive against the Brazilians”, points out Gabriel Anello.
Gustavo López, from Rádio La Red, follows a similar line: “Boca has everything to lose, Racing has everything to gain. Boca is a title or nothing, and it is not just any achievement, it is the record, equaling the seven in the Independiente, and in the middle of the River’s dominance. That’s why we see Boca battered, pressured, worn out, a team that wants to take River down and doesn’t know what to do.
